It snowed this morning.
The flakes were huge and fluffy and melted on the road but were pretty on the bushes.
In other words, aside from a bit of scenic, there was nothing there.
However, this was enough for the organizer of the LGBTQalphtabetsoup meetup to postpone this morning's brunch at the Elliott Bay Eatery (in the Pioneer Square area, downtown) due to the 'blizzard'. Of course, she didn't do this until I was already on the bus so I didn't know about it until I got there and one of the 6 (out of 20+) who signed up was there and told me. We 6 had a good conversation and enjoyed ourselves and the rest just missed out. It wasn't even snowing downtown and the rain shouldn't have scared away any real resident of the PNW. Sheesh.
After brunch I wandered over to the local mystery book store and bought $70 worth of mysteries. I should be well provided for a few weeks.
Then back to the U-district for 3 or so hours of mah jong before dinner. I'd made 5pm reservations ('cause that's all I could get) for a place called Crush located East of Capital Hill. I invited my usual foodies crowd (all 40+ of them) to come but the turnout was lacking. One of the students in the Queer Men's Group on campus had said he wanted to come along so I knew I had one guest and
ljtourist's plans changed so he was able to come but then the student had a sudden attack of Real Life that required him to head home to deal with something so it wound up being just Frank and me.
The meal was meh at best. It was decidedly not worth the $50 I spent on it. sigh. After the buildup (they get 5 stars for salesmanship, I'll give them that) I find myself more annoyed each time I think about it. I don't think I'll be going back there. Frank and I are trying again with dinner at Art tomorrow night. Hopefully it'll be better.
After dinner Frank came over to my place and we opened some wine to see if it was dead. I'm too much of a hoarder and these wonderful wines were all pretty much toast. That means I'll be making some $250-$300 worth of vinegar soon. cry
In all, despite the needless cancelation and the disappointing dinner (both for the food and that one friend couldn't make it because bad things were happening to/around him) and the wine sadness it was a good day. I had fun chatting with interesting people at the brunch and at mah jong and had a really good conversation with Frank over dinner and after.
