sonics go boom?

I'm really, really hoping the NBA owners or whoever it is decides these things let the wastes of taxpayer money (er, sonics) move to Oklahoma. They deserve each other.

Now, can we please move on to something meaningful?

Waste of Taxpayer money? Hell, could be worse.

Down here in the sunshine stat it looks like St. Pete is going to build a huge stadium that we REALLY REALLY seriously have no use for, given that we have at least 3 or 4 stadiums in the bay area, at HUGE taxpayer expense, while the state is in a budget crisis.

um, ya, we have 2 of those (they replaced the king dome - which we aren't done paying for yet - with a foobah and a basebaaaaa thing). The sonics wanted something like $200M in "renovations" to the arena they use (at tax payer expense, of course). This entire industry of making tax payers pay for private businesses' places of work really pisses me off.

Evidently it pisses a lot of people in Seattle off, though. We passed a voter initiative last year. They're not allowed to do sporting arena stuff unless we can get back the same level of interest as we'd get on some high-yield bond or other good investment. I don't think Seattle will be (legally) paying for another sporting complex. Of course, the asshats who own the sonics immediately tried to get the _state_ to pay for their arena (either the one in Seattle or another one in King County). The state said no. Yay!

Now if they'd just GTF out of town once and for all....
