My travel agent (airfare.com) fucked up, big time. Oh so bigtime. What's worse, they won't take the blame for it and fix it.

They cancelled my flight about 24 hours ago. They rebooked it at a new (higher) price but they claim that 1) United did it, not them and 2) they will charge me to reissue the ticket like United says they have to do.

United says "the travel agent cancelled the flight, issued a new reservation with a different record locator number, and needs to pay for the change as well as reissue the ticket for it."

airfare.com says "united did it. There's a note from Nycah Jonne at United saying 'Cancelled the PNR in error. Message sent to. Spoke with Lisa.'"

United says "did not."

airfare.com says "did so." They also say "the flight is confirmed, there is no problem."

SAS (the actual flight is on SAS, it's code-share on United) says nothing, they're closed for the night.

I will be calling SAS in the morning to see what they say, then calling airfare.com back and speaking with a manager. I do not know if I will actually be on an airplane tomorrow evening or not.

Needless to say, I don't think I'm going to get much sleep tonight. I'm so angry I don't think sleep is much of an option.

Further needless to say, I will never again do business with airfare.com (aka kayak.com and sitestep.com and probably another hundred domain names).

err, that's really sucky. glad to hear you made it in the end.

but kayak.com (and, from the looks of it sidestep.com) aren't actually travel agents. they're search engines, they do not and can not sell you a ticket, they just tell you the fares they were given by the places they queried.

as you rightly pointed out, airfare.com is a travel agent (one of many orbitz.com clones?)-- they're the ones who botched this, not the aggregator who pointed you at them.

as an analogy, there's no point in refusing to use google search anymore because one of the search results includes an online merchant who ripped you off...
